Mr. David W. Cook, Honorary Consul in Columbus

On April 10th, 2017, the government of Japan appointed Mr. David W. Cook as the new Honorary Consul of Japan in Columbus.
Mr. Cook is a partner at the Columbus office of the law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP. He specializes in immigration and naturalization law for businesses and individuals. Prior to joining Vorys, Mr. Cook served as Senior Assistant Counsel to Honda of America Manufacturing, Inc., responsible for the company’s visa and immigration matters. He also served as the Director of the Columbus Council on World Affairs for 13 years. Mr. Cook has a B.A. in Economics/Japanese from Brigham Young University and J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law.
The role of an Honorary Consul is to assist the mission of the Consulate-General office in promoting U.S.–Japan relations and protecting the welfare of local Japanese residents. The five-year term is from April 10, 2017 through April 10, 2022.
We believe Honorary Consul Cook’s rich background in his career make him ideal for this role. We, at the Consulate General of Japan in Detroit, will continue to work closely with Honorary Consul Cook to make a significant, positive impact on U.S.-Japan relations and cross-cultural exchange.
