In recognition of his contributions to the practice of kendo in the United States of America, Mr. Yoshiteru Tagawa will receive The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette Commendation. Mr. Tagawa will attend a ceremony which will be held at the residence of Emperor Naruhito.
Through the promotion of Japan's traditional art of kendo, Mr. Tagawa has promoted a grassroots appreciation of Japanese culture to people in the United States. He has encouraged participation in the study of kendo thereby providing a means of cross cultural exchange and friendship.
The Order of the Rising Sun is a Japanese government honor which was established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji.
