Revised Visa Application (EFFECTIVE JUNE 1, 2022)
Current procedures and general information for Border enforcement and quarantine measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 Travel to Japan during COVID.We can only accept the following categories from those who live in our jurisdiction, in MICHIGAN or in OHIO. If none of the categories below apply to you and you need to apply for a visa, please contact us for inquires. It takes 5 business days to issue a visa from the date we received all required documents.
(1) BUSINESS/CONFFERENCE PURPOSES
(2) FOR VISITING SPOUSE/CHILD/RELATIVES/ACQUAINTANCE OF JAPANESE NATIONALS
(3) FOR VISITING SPOUSE/CHILD/RELATIVES/ACQUAINTANCE WHO HAS A JAPANESE RESIDENCE CARD INCLUDING VISITING SOFA STATUS FAMILY MEMBERS
(4) FORMER JAPANESE NATIONALS
(5) FOR THOSE WHO HAVE A CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY (EXCEPT STUDENTS)
(6) STUDENTS WHO HAVE A CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY
(7) TEMPORARY VISIT FOR TOURISUM POURPOSES (ONLY WITH ERFS)
How to apply
IN PERSON:At this time, our office is operating on an APPOINTMENT-ONLY basis to enforce the social distancing in the lobby and you are requested to make an appointment prior to your visit. We request visa-related guests to visit our office on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Please call at (313) 567-0120 Ext. 214 to schedule an appointment.
ATTENTION: Applicants who reside in Michigan’s WAYNE, OAKLAND and MACOMB counties MUST submit visa applications in person at the Consulate’s office in Detroit.
BY MAIL:
Applicants who reside in OHIO or OUTSIDE of the tri-counties mentioning above but within Michigan, you have the option of mailing everything in by FedEx, UPS, U.S. postal service (Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express).
Please note that The Consulate-General of Japan in Detroit is not liable for any mailing incidents such as loss, damage, delay, etc. If you would like to avoid any mailing incidents, you must apply and pick up in person. However, if you choose to use mail, we encourage you to keep relevant tracking numbers. Do not contact us to check mailing status.
