On April 29, 2021 (Japan Time), the Government of Japan announced the foreign recipients of the 2021 Spring Imperial Decorations.
Mr. Philip Andrew Barth, former Honorary Consul General of Japan in Columbus and former President of the Japan-America Society of Central Ohio, is among this year’s foreign recipients.  In recognition of his contributions towards promoting exchange and friendship between Japan and the United States, he will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette.

SUMMARY OF CONTRIBUTIONS
Mr. Barth served as Japan’s Honorary Consul General in Columbus, Ohio from 2008 to 2013 and contributed to strengthening the relationship between the American community and the Japanese business community in the Columbus area.  Mr. Barth also worked towards the establishment of the Central Ohio Japan America Society (JASCO) in 1997 and became President of JASCO, serving for five years until 2002.  In this role, Mr. Barth contributed further to deepening the friendship between the Japanese and American communities in the region.  After his tenure as the President, Mr. Barth has continued to be an active member of JASCO to this day.
