Local Students Vie for Prizes in Japanese Language Speech Contest
Detroit, MI – February 7, 2013 – Delta Airline coupons, a Kindle Fire and an iPod Nano Multi-touch are among the prizes that will be awarded to Michigan students this Saturday in the Michigan 2013 Japanese Language Speech Contest, held at the Novi Civic Center at 45175 W. Ten Mile Rd., Novi, Michigan. Sixteen high school students and eight university students will present their speeches before a panel of judges and an encouraging audience of friends, families, teachers and fellow students. Awards will be based on the structure, content, fluency and memorization of self-written speeches.
This year marks the 18th annual contest. Together with the Japan Business Society of Detroit and the Japan America Society of Michigan and Southwest Ontario, the Consulate General of Japan in Detroit sponsors and organizes the event to encourage and support the Japanese language instruction in Michigan. Support is also being provided by the Japanese Teachers Association of Michigan, the Japan Society of Detroit Women’s Club, Delta Airlines and the Japan Foundation.
