Consul General's Greeting
Mr. Kuninori Matsuda, Consul General of Japan in Detroit
Welcome to our website of the Consulate General of Japan in Detroit. Thank you for taking the time to visit. It is our goal that the pages herein will assist, inform and enlighten you about our office, services, programs and Japan. If we fall short of our goal, I invite you to contact our office with your concerns.
In 1993, as a result of the increasing number of Japanese residents and businesses in Michigan and Ohio this Consulate was established. Recent survey results show 484 Michigan businesses and 388 Ohio businesses are wholly or partially Japanese owned. And, the number of Japanese citizens residing in these two states exceeds 17,000.
Important missions of the Consulate include supporting these residents, promoting trade and business development between Japan and the US, and nurturing the excellent relationship we currently enjoy through various educational and cultural activities and exchanges. I am fully committed to supporting these activities and look forward to working together with local organizations, universities and individuals to introduce Japan, promote mutual understanding and enhance friendships.
